Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was a famous person of South Africa who wanted freedom in South Africa. This quest took him to a prison underground to the presidency. Even though Nelson Mandela has past away he is still a very important figure in South Africa. In his quest to have freedom in South Africa Nelson Mandela became a rarity. Black and white people adore Nelson Mandela.

What 2013 Taught Me

2013 taught me that you should be thankful for the life that you have because many people died. Since many people died in 2013 I feel I should be very thankful for every thing I have and that nothing really bad happened to me. Nelson Mandela, Paul Walker, Lou Reed, Cory Monteith were people who died in 2013.

What I look forward to in 2014

I look forward to the technology of 2014. There have been many different advancements in technology. The IPhone S and C, the Samsung watch. Those are three advancements of many and there will be more in 2014.

Ligers

                              Introduction

Ligers are  a cross breed between a tiger and a lion. Ligers can be more like lions than tigers with their character. A liger is a big cat that is the offspring of a male lion and a female tiger. There is also something called a tigon. But this is the offspring of a female lion and male tiger. These two do look different even though they are offspring of the same animal. Ligers get characteristics from both lion and tiger . The liger has tiger like strips that are light and also looks like a big lion. Some say that a liger is larger than his parents and are arguably the largest big cats in the world.

Opinion

I didn't know that tigers and lions could mate because they both live in different continents. Also I read a book that said if a lion and a tiger saw each other, they wouldn't recognize each other and kill each other and the lion would win. Since there are more ligers than tigons the ligers may have a better chance at being born.

Candy canes

                                  Introduction

Candy canes weren't always striped, they were developed by just white strips of sugar. In the mid-1600 candy makers made candy canes by hand instead of machine. The task needed a lot of time and strength. The ingredients needed to be mixed, heated and then pulled, cut and twisted. The first candy sticks were made in 1670 by choirmaster in Germany. The candy canes were for the kids who went to the Christmas Nativity pageant.

Opinion

My opinion on candy canes are that since they are a stick of sugar I think that kids should eat the smaller candy canes in stead of the larger ones because that much sugar can make a kid get hyper. Some parents don't let their kids eat candy canes because of the sugar. But the candy makers who make it by hand do work very hard and should get more credit. This video from Wonderopolis showed me that.

Turkey on Thanksgiving

Introduction

When the pilgrims came to America they met the American Indians. The American Indians taught the pilgrims many things about the land. When they became close they had something called Thanksgiving. On November 28th thanksgiving is a tradition and so is eating turkey on that day. There are many theories on why pilgrims eat turkey on thanksgiving. One theory was that during the 16th century a fleet of Spanish ships sunk on their way to attack England. Queen Elizabeth revived this news while eating dinner. She was so trilled that she ordered another goose be served. The Settlers were so trilled they roasted a turkey instead of a goose.

Opinion

I think that if we eat turkey on Thanksgiving because Queen Elizabeth ate a goose but not a turkey. Since she didn't eat a turkey I don't know why we eat turkey for sure. I think we eat turkey because the American Indians and pilgrims needed to decide on what to eat.  But the Indians think that animals should be respected. So they decided on a turkey than an other animal. If they decided on an other animal then they would eat an other animal.
